Marangu
Route

The most scenic and accessible path to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Experience lush rainforests, stunning alpine vistas, and the thrill of conquering Africa’s highest peak

About Marangu Route

The Marangu Route, often dubbed the “Coca-Cola Route,” is renowned for its relatively gentle gradient and well-established path, making it a popular choice for trekkers aiming to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro. This route features comfortable hut accommodations at Mandara, Horombo, and Kibo huts, providing a bit of extra comfort compared to other routes that rely solely on camping. The trail’s infrastructure, coupled with its gradual ascent, makes Marangu an accessible option for climbers with varying levels of experience.

Beginning in lush rainforest, the Marangu Route offers trekkers a journey through diverse ecosystems. Hikers will experience the verdant greenery and wildlife of the lower slopes, which gradually give way to moorland and alpine desert as the elevation increases. This diversity in terrain not only enhances the trekking experience but also aids acclimatization, an essential factor for a successful summit. The scenic beauty of the route, combined with the camaraderie found in the communal huts, adds a unique social aspect to the climb.

Despite its reputation for being one of the easier routes, the Marangu Route still presents a significant challenge, especially as trekkers approach the final ascent to Uhuru Peak. The altitude and thin air require physical and mental endurance, particularly during the early morning hours of the summit push. However, those who brave the climb are rewarded with the breathtaking view from the highest point in Africa, standing at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet). The sense of accomplishment and the stunning vistas make the Marangu Route a memorable and rewarding journey to the roof of Africa.
