The park derives its name from the life-giving Tarangire River, which snakes its way through the landscape. During the dry season, from July to October, this permanent source of water attracts a vast concentration of wildlife, making it one of the best times for safari viewing.

Witnessing enormous herds of elephants gathering at the riverbank to drink and bathe is a truly unforgettable experience. Tarangire is also home to a large number of zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, and gazelles, all coming to quench their thirst.
