Itinerary Details
Day 1 Arusha - Four Points by Sheraton
This is where all of your planning becomes a reality: your safari starts now. Tanzania is such a wonderful country when it comes to wildlife and beautiful landscapes. After we greet you and answer any questions you might have, we’ll take great pleasure in taking you out and showing you what we mean. You’ll spend some time in Arusha, where there’s always something happening. The endlessly busy streets are a fascinating performance in their own right, but the city also has clamorous markets, excellent museums and a fun food scene. Best of all, it’s a window on local life that you just can’t get out in the safari parks.
Accommodation Four Points by Sheraton Arusha
The Four Points by Sheraton Arusha is a near-perfect combination of downtown Arusha location with luxury rooms and world-class facilities. These include a fine restaurant, a tranquil pool, leafy grounds and a wellequipped gym. This is one of Arusha’s longest-standing hotels, but with modern facilities, as well as good service.
Day 2 Central Serengeti National Park
There’s nowhere in Tanzania where you have a better chance of seeing big cats than in the Central Serengeti. You’ll also see lots of other animals as you explore the savannah grasslands and silhouetted acacia trees with us. This is the Serengeti’s heartland and it is the most popular area of the park, but with very good reason.
Ngorongoro Highlands
Temperatures are lovely and cool in Ngorongoro Highlands, which is perfect for exploring the forests, and seeing the wildlife (elephant, buffalo and maybe even leopard) and views.
Accommodation Embalakai Serengeti Camp
You can enjoy the best of the Serengeti at Embalakai Camp, which is a little away from other safari lodges and camps but right in the middle of the park’s big populations of wildlife. The wood-floored safari tents lie close to the river and the Serengeti’s famous grasslands stretch off into the distance. Wildlife often wanders through camp. There’s also a good dining tent.

Return to the Central Serengeti to further explore this impressive place.

It’s a fantastic opportunity to see some of the animals you came so far to see.

The sundowner is one of our favorite times of the day. We’ll take you to a beautiful spot in Central Serengeti National Park to serve you some drinks and watch the sunset together.

Day 4 Karatu
In the busy provincial town of Karatu, with its constant stream of passing tourist traffic, the many places to stay mean you can rest from life on the road here. It’s big enough to have banks, shops (for both supplies and souvenirs) and a few roadside restaurants where locals

You’ll want to stay longer at Africa Safari Karatu – it’s that sort of place. Sleep in either a simple safari tent or a bungalow-style room with brick walls and a scattering of local handicrafts. There’s a swimming pool, a garden where they grow their own food for the on-site restaurant, and amazing views over impossibly green hills close to Ngorongoro
Day 5 Karatu
Reacquaint yourself with Karatu with more time along its busy main street or tranquil back streets.
Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Crater has everything you could wish for in a safari – plentiful wildlife, rare natural beauty, and the chance to enjoy it all in just one day.

Day 6 Mto wa Mbu
Mto Wa Mbu is the main gateway town for Lake Manyara National Park, which is just a few kilometers away. It’s a fun place to explore and catch a glimpse of local life, with plenty of activity on its busy streets. It’s also one of Tanzania’s most multicultural towns, with all 120 of the country’s ethnic groups present in town.

Explore Lake Manyara with the Rift Valley escarpment looming overhead and looking for lions and elephants lurking in the trees down below.

Day 9 Zanzibar Island
Spend more time getting to know Zanzibar Island.
Boat Trip, Changuu (Prison) Island
One of our favorite activities on Zanzibar is a boat trip to Changuu Island. This lovely spot is also known as Prison Island, after a restored fortress-like building that was constructed in the 1890s as a prison, only to be repurposed as a quarantine center instead. Today, the island is best known for a population of giant tortoises that were introduced from the Seychelles and are now protected in a sanctuary where the oldest individual is said to have been around for 120-plus years. A visit to Changuu is normally followed by a swim and a beach barbecue on an exposed sandbar known as Nakupenda Island, but this is dependent on weather and tides.
Nungwi
You get the best of both worlds at Nungwi. There’s a beautiful beach and Zanzibar’s best sunsets, as well as a picturesque fleet of fishing boats and a turtle conservation project.

Soak up the history as you explore Zanzibar Stone Town. The Swahili architecture here speaks of a rich and varied past, reflecting influences from Arabia, Asia and elsewhere across the Indian Ocean. But you’ll love this place most when the smell of spices and the Muslim call to prayer carries through the atmospheric alleys to the historic waterfront.
